This post by Stephen Carlson has some information on the statistical likelihood that it is genuine. This is the best done statistical analysis I have seen. I think the odds are pretty telling. This will be my last post having anything to do with this ridiculous documentary. There are people in the pews reading about this stuff and it is good for us to communicate where to find credible information regarding it.

Prediction Concerning the "Jesus Tomb"

While numerous additional articles even from non-Christian sources (including the Washington post and Scientific American) continue to debunk the theory that the tomb and bones of Jesus have been discovered (see here and previous post for links), I am going to go out on a limb and predict that this "documentary" is going to win some sort of award. Remember the Oscars of 2005 when the Passion of the Christ didn't win a single thing even though grossing over 611 million dollars worldwide? Giving James Cameron and his people awards for this pack of distortions would be right up the alley of the A-list people and I wouldn't put it past them because it goes right in line with their agenda - true or false it really doesn't seem to matter. I fully expect to hear of this Discovery Channel special winning some type of award this year.

Tomb of Jesus son of Joseph - links

I am sure you have all heard the hype by now about the tomb that was found 27 years ago with ossuaries in it that have several biblical names in one family tomb. The Discovery channel and James Cameron have come together to try to sound authoritative in making this out to be the actual tomb of Jesus. There are so many holes in their theory and possibly even some lies that have to be sorted through. Here are a couple of links that are really good to help sort through all of this.

This all turns out to be a bunch of hype and look for publicity and book deals (a.ka. money) over something that was found nearly 30 years ago but the scholars/scientific community knew better than to make a big deal over because there is really nothing significant there.
