Giving and Receiving
It is better to give than to receive is a phrase that we grow into. Not many children get it. Not many teens get it. Honestly, not many adults get it. It has taken me a while and I thought I got it but I think this Christmas that lesson finally clicked in a profound way. There is no amazing story to tell. There is no deep philosophical point to make. I just didn't care what I got for Christmas this year and absolutely loved watching others receive what we picked out for them. I am sure that when you have kids this lesson becomes more obvious but it has taken me a while to not only think this is true but to actually feel it.

Matt, I think you have to make it passed the magical number of 30 to start appreciating what you have said. I like you really did not care what I got for Christmas ... indeed we were getting rid of stuff rather than getting more stuff. I would much rather watch the delight in Rachael or Talya's eyes as they unwrap something.
But they insist so I finally broke down and said: The Forbidden Planet on DVD. Guess what, I didn't even get it, :-)
I do hope all is well down there in the land of dangerous sunshine. Happy New Year.
Shalom,
Bobby Valentine
My spiritual gift is recieving.
