Books that Changed Your Life

I am sure we would all list the Bible as the ultimate book that changed your life. I am curious, which books have you read that left you never the same again? Is it because it spoke your language (in a figurative kind of way)? Is it because of the moment in your life/things you were facing? Did it adjust your paradigm in some way?

For me I would have to put on my list Restoring Joy by Gordon MacDonald. This is a three-volume in one work that contains three of his best-sellers: Ordering Your Private World, Renewing Your Spiritual Passion, and Rebuilding Your Broken World. Gordon MacDonald speaks my language. He speaks to my heart by moving my mind.

What books would you put on your list of life changing books and why?

I can't put my finger on one. I think I may have a top 10. Off the top of my head, here are some of the more formative books:

Influence by Robert Cialdini (*** not a Christian book ***)

Leadership Without Easy Answers by Ron Heifetz (*** also not a Christian book, but I consider a must-read by those who think John Maxwell is a great source on leadership ***)

The Purpose Driven Church by Rick Warren

The God of the Towel by Jim McGuiggan

I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris

Wild at Heart by John Eldredge

The Word Before the Powers by Charles L. Campbell

Transforming Mission by David J. Bosch

Point Man by Steve Farrar

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

That's just off the top of my head (in no particular order), without really looking at my library & reflecting ...

I don't know that I read every chapter but Richard Foster's "Celebration of Discipline" opened my eyes to thinking of Christianity as transformation and being, instead of just doing certain things in certain ways.

much of the book is topics that had been lacking in my spiritual diet up to that point.

Philip,

You recommended the Hiefitz book to me a while back. I started on it but had too much to read at that time. I will have to take another look at it before long.

Brian,

Thanks for the comment. That is an excellent book. I am about to start reading his book on prayer as well as Yancey's.
